Yep, it’s a bit of a mess since Route 3 was originally supposed to continue south there, but when that highway (and many others in Boston) were canceled, they instead decided to send Route 3 South northeast along I-95/128 a bit until it picks up on a surface street.
You can see that the original cloverleaf interchange has been converted into a trumpet since the highway stretch will never be extended to the south (maybe if we get really cheap robotic tunneling? )
